About Rich Smiles Rentals, LLC

Locally owned. Community focused. Making hauling easy across South‑Central PA and Western MD.

We’re a new, locally owned trailer rental business proudly serving Franklin County, PA, Washington County, MD and the surrounding areas.

Our mission is to keep things simple, affordable, and stress‑free. We offer dependable equipment, flexible rental options, and friendly, local service. We take pride in supporting our community — because when you rent with us, you’re working with someone who understands the area, values your time, and genuinely wants your project to go smoothly.

We will deliver anywhere within 10 miles of our location for free. Any additional distance is $3.00 per mile. A public location must be able to accomodate a trailer exchange and be allowed. We recommend: TA Travel Center at 10835 John Wayne Dr, Greencastle, PA 17225 (Right off Exit 5 on I-81).

For contactless rentals, you will receieve the address within two hours of your rental start along with lockbox code.

We accept credit card payments directly through our site. Cash and checks are not accepted.

Renters must be at least 25 years of age. Please note: Rentals cannot be made on behalf of someone else — the person renting must be the one responsible for, and transporting, the trailer. No exceptions.

First, ensure you and others are safe and out of immediate danger. Call 911 right away. After contacting the authorities, you must notify Rich Smiles Rentals, LLC at (240-513-8414) as soon as possible — no matter the severity of the accident or who is at fault. We will need a copy of the police report, along with the other driver’s identity and insurance information.

We understand accidents happen. Your safety is our top priority. Once everyone is safe, we’ll guide you through the necessary paperwork and begin the accident process promptly.

1. Ensure safety first. Make sure you and others are out of immediate danger. If it is safe, exit the vehicle and move away from traffic. The trailer box contains hazard triangles, battery-powered strobes (for night use), and a high-visibility vest. Put on the vest before setting up warning devices.
  • If traffic flows one way: place one triangle/flare next to the trailer, one 100 ft behind, and another 200 ft behind.
  • If traffic flows both ways: place one triangle/flare 100 ft in front, one next to the trailer, and one 100 ft behind.
2. Stay calm. Take a breath and relax — breakdowns happen, and things go more smoothly when you remain calm. 3. Identify the issue.
  • If it’s your tow vehicle: Contact a tow service as needed and call Rich Smiles Rentals, LLC at (240-513-8414) to discuss handling the trailer.
  • If it’s the trailer:
    • For a flat tire: use the provided spare, tools, and torque wrench. Re-torque after 50 miles and again at 100 miles (very important, as steel rims settle). Torque specs are in your rental packet. Check all tire pressures with the provided gauge and pump.
    • For anything more serious (coupler damage, bearing failure, locked brakes, etc.): call Rich Smiles Rentals, LLC immediately at (240-513-8414) for next steps.
Note: If a tire is replaced without further issues, you may wait until return to notify us. However, if there is damage (e.g., from a blowout), you must call us right away.

Yes. Pennsylvania law requires that the tow vehicle have valid insurance. Most auto insurance policies extend liability coverage while towing, but they typically do not cover damage to the trailer itself or the cargo being hauled.

Renters are financially responsible for any damage not covered by the additional insurance purchase options.

The required tow vehicle depends on the trailer you are renting and its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Each trailer listing includes the GVWR — compare this to your vehicle’s towing capacity (found on the manufacturer’s sticker, usually inside the driver’s door jamb) to confirm it can safely tow the trailer.

If a trailer requires a brake controller, this will be noted in the listing. Pennsylvania law requires your tow vehicle to be equipped with a functioning brake controller in those cases.

A $150 security deposit is required as well as a credit card authorization form to cover any unexpected damages or losses above the security deposit.

We will send an invoice to you once damage assessment is complete. You may pay that invoice with any card you wish and is due upon receipt. If you fail to pay in a timely manner, the card on file will be charged. For contactless returns, please reach out in advance if you’d like to use a different payment method; otherwise, the card on file will be charged.

Security deposits are refunded after return inspection is performed on the trailer minus any damages. If a reservation is cancelled, the security deposit will be refunded in accordance to the cancellation policy.

Yes, but they must also complete a rental agreement, provide a valid ID, and be authorized to operate the tow vehicle and trailer. If you purchase additional insurance coverage, they must be listed on that policy as well. They must also meet our age requirement (25+).

Yes! Available accessories are listed on each trailer’s rental page. If you need something not shown, please contact us — we may have it available. Most accessories are provided free of charge, while a few specialty items may carry a small fee.

Cancellations made more than 2 hours before the reservation date and time receive a refund of any payments made minus credit card processing fees. Cancellations made within 2 hours may be subject to a partial charge/refund, and no-call/no-shows are non-refundable. All refunds will be minus any applicable credit card processing fees.

For full details, please see the cancellation terms listed on each trailer’s rental page.

If the trailer is returned more than 30 minutes past the scheduled return time, a $25 late fee will apply. If the trailer is returned more than one (1) hour late, an additional full day’s rental charge will apply. If a late return impacts another scheduled rental, an additional $100 fee will be assessed as liquidated damages. These fees compensate for lost rental opportunities, scheduling delays, and the administrative handling associated with late returns.

If you think you may be delayed, please contact us as soon as possible — we’ll work with you to discuss the most economical options and minimize scheduling conflicts.

Yes. Most of our trailers are equipped with brakes, as required by state and federal law. If a trailer has brakes, your tow vehicle must also be equipped with a functioning brake controller to comply with the law and ensure safe operation.

Yes! Since we’re located right on the PA/MD state line, travel into Maryland or Pennsylvania is no problem. You’re also welcome to take our trailers anywhere within the United States — whether that’s hauling motorcycles to Sturgis or heading to the mountains of Tennessee for an off-road trip.

We just ask that you let us know your travel plans in advance so we can ensure the trailer is properly serviced and equipped for your trip.

Trailers may not be taken outside of the United States.

As a general rule, load about 60% of the weight toward the front of the trailer and 40% toward the rear, keeping the load evenly distributed side to side.

Always check your tow vehicle’s stance — it should remain level. If the rear of the vehicle sags excessively, weight is being lifted off the front tires, which creates a dangerous loss of steering control.
